There’ve been plenty of noteworthy items at CES this year, but something worth seriously noting was the unveiling of the Steam console prototype codenamed ‘Piston’.
Steam already has a serious footing with gamers, building up a dedicated audience since it’s set up as a method of distribution by Valve in 2003.
I’ve always respected it for what it is, but du to its limitation in terms of platform (being a console guy), tended never to engage with it.
Piston however could change all of that.
The principle is an integrated unit allowing to access Steams library into your living room – another major step towards what is undoubtedly the next step in the evolution of games consoles.
Whether we will see this prototype developed into a commercial product is another matter – but if it is, I’ll be there cash in hand.
